The Scotts™ Grass Seed Protection Mat helps ensure your newly planted grass seed germinates without disturbance, helping to protect against wind and washaway. In addition, the grass seed mat and included stakes are biodegradable, so you don't have to worry about cleanup; it will breakdown over time. Before applying the mat, rake the seed area to loosen the top layer of soil (approximately 2 inches deep) and remove any dead grass or debris. Add a starter fertilizer and apply the grass seed as indicated on your grass seed product packaging (note: fertilizer and seed are not included). Next, roll the Scotts™ Grass Seed Protection Mat out flat, stretch slightly, and stake into place using the 12 included stakes. Spread them evenly around the mat, ensuring they're at or below ground level. For best results, wet the mat thoroughly after installation. Afterwards, follow the watering and fertilizing directions as seen on your grass seed packaging. Depending on your conditions, grass seed sprouts in a few weeks.
